ColoradoScape is  is defined as the process of landscaping, or gardening, that reduces or eliminates the need for irrigation. This process has traditionally called Xeriscape. ColoradoScape is a natural landscape, comprised of low to very-low water use plant material, which blends in with the native Colorado landscape. Plant material must be maintained in its natural, native form. This landscaping utilizes a combination of hardscape and landscape materials, providing a variety of colors, textures, sizes, shapes, and seasonal interest.

Step One

Review the Highlands Ranch Residential Improvement Guidelines for basic requirements when building your plan. Located in the rear of the Guidelines is a list of recommended (and NOT recommended) plantings, shrubs, and trees.

Step Two

Build your plan. Ensure there is a variety of ground covers, year-round green foliage, interesting focal points, and spaced plantings.

Step Three

All ColoradoScape is required to be submitted for approval to the HRCA.

There is no fee attached to ColoradoScape and the form lists the requirements needed for review to ensure you have all applicable information needed for approval.

Step Four

All correspondence from the HRCA will be through email. We are working hard to move the improvement plans out as soon as possible. Any approval is good for one year from the approval date.

The Centennial Water & Sanitation District will help put money back in your pocket. A rebate for up to 1,000 square feet is available for the removal of any high-water-use plant material. The exact amount is dependent on replacement material.

We are here to assist Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at 303-471-8821 or improvements@hrcaonline.org.
