Coached Swimming Colorado
Programs for all ages

Coached Swimming

HRCA Youth Coached Aquatics offers flexible, monthly programs where swimmers of all levels can build competitive skills, improve stroke technique, and increase endurance in a team setting. Adult swim groups cater to beginners through elite competitors, with tailored workouts and technique instruction from experienced coaches.

The primary goal of HRCA’s Coached program is to encourage swimmers of all ages to build a life-long love of swimming. Practices provide competitive swimming instruction in a safe, friendly environment.

Coaches help swimmers develop competitive swim strokes to USA Swimming legal standards. Practices focus on stroke development, endurance, and competitive techniques including lane etiquette, circle swimming, turns, and dive starts.

  • Ages: 6-18
  • Location: August – May (Westridge); June & July (Northridge)
  • CARA seasons: January-April, June-July, September-December
  • Swim Meets: Northridge Recreation Center and regional away meet locations
  • Registration: Register monthly – HRCA does not offer rolling enrollment
  • Missed practices: No refunds are offered for missed classes. See cancellation policy.
  • Seahawks Swim Team website: Team information, Important Dates, and Meet Results.

Youth and Adults must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle with side breathing, 50 yards backstroke comfortably without stopping, and 5 strokes each breaststroke and butterfly to register. For youth, we recommend the completion of HRCA Stroke School II (Blue). Swimmers must have the endurance for 45-minute practices.

  • New Swimmers to Seahawks: We recommend scheduling a swim evaluation prior to registration.
  • Equipment: Swimsuit and goggles for all levels. Swim fins are required for the Maroon, Elite, and adult swim groups.

I’m new to Seahawks - do I need to try-out?

Swim Evaluations are recommended. During the evaluation, parents may ask questions and learn more about the team. Sign up for an evaluation online.

What should I bring to practice?

Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to allow swimmers to prepare for practice (bathroom, gear on). Swimmers should bring water bottles, two pairs of goggles, a swimsuit, towel, and hair tied back or wear a swim cap. Seahawks Maroon and Elite swimmers need swim fins. In the summer, all swimmers should apply sunscreen at home prior to practice.

How will I know when my swimmer is ready to change groups?

Coaches may reassess swimmers at the end of a swim season or on an individual basis. Changing groups can be challenging since groups often fill at the beginning of the season. Coaches will increase practice difficulty as needed to meet the needs of the swimmers.

Are swim meets required?

No. Seahawks is a year-round member of the CARA Swim League. In the summer, HRCA hosts three home meets and attend away meets. Summer meets are included in the program fee for the month(s) registered.

All swimmers may swim a minimum of 3 individual events and 1 relay at all meets. There are no refunds for missed practices or meets.

How long is a swim meet?

Meet estimated time: 7 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Are there concessions at swim meets?

In the summer, parents may bring chairs and coolers (Note: no glass or alcohol allowed). A food truck will be available for concessions only during home summer swim meets.

Will Parents Need to Volunteer?

Swim teams are successful because of wonderful parent volunteers. Each family should volunteer for all registered swim meets. Please visit the HRCA Seahawks SwimTopia team website for available volunteer opportunities.

Will there be Ribbons & Awards?

YES! Meet ribbons will be given at the end of each meet. Coach’s awards are given at the end of summer team banquet.

Are Team Suits & Gear required to participate?

No. We encourage swimmers to purchase a team suit, but these are not mandatory. Team Store and additional information is on Seahawks Swimptopia Team Website.

Out of Breath Sports, 311 E. County Line Rd, Suite 6, Littleton, CO 80122, 303.798.5037

What is SwimTopia?

The SwimTopia App is included with the HRCA Seahawks program. Parents use SwimTopia to register for meets, get results, and track swimmers’ progress. The Seahawks team uses the SwimTopia webpage and app for most parent communication in the summer and for all swim meets.
